Saved at the age of 18, Pastor Koonce soon sensed the call of God into the ministry and attended and graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo. as well as getting a degree from Malone University in Canton, Ohio.

He served as Associate Pastor at the Canton Baptist Temple for 8 years where he began the Young Marrieds Ministry as well as leading a Sunday School that averaged in the thousands. From there his ministry took him to New England where he pastored in Chicopee, Massachusetts for 18 years and taught at Boston Baptist College.

In 1998, he began a ministry at the Calvary Bible Baptist Church in Westerville, Ohio and served as Senior Pastor for 7 years. The church experienced growth in numbers, an increase in giving and Missions outreach, a highly effective Boy Scout ministry, as well as sending individuals to be trained in Bible College.

Since 2008, along with a group of faithful people, Bro. Koonce began the Central Baptist Church which recently moved to their newly renovated facility in Sunbury, Ohio. The church has been blessed with spiritual and numerical growth and recently baptized 9 young believers in the Lord!

This past November he and his wife Judy celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary. They have three children - Todd, Shawn, and Heather; each serving the Lord faithfully and one of whom leads a full-time ministry in Kenya, East Africa.

Pastor Koonce's greatest joys: "Knowing Christ as Savior; having my wife as my best friend; having children who love and serve the Lord Jesus; ministering God's Word to God's people, seeing them mature in Christ and leading the Lord's church to win and disciple people to be devoted to Christ for His glory."
